Solar Eclipse in Capricorn: Saturn's Rules of Order

The first New Moon of 2019 gives us undeniable clues for navigating the new year, if we only listen.

The first new moon of this year happens to be an intense Solar Eclipse in the sign of Capricorn, with Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto joining the Sun/Moon conjunction in Capricorn, the sign under Saturn’s rule.

Due to the heavy influence of Saturn as He travels through the sign of His rulership, the Cardinal Earth sign of Capricorn, the period surrounding this specific Solar Eclipse heralds the perfect time to put your thoughts into writing, and make a commitment to diligently get on with the hard work you know is necessary for your goals to come to fruition.

TODAY and tomorrow, while the Moon is in Capricorn, it is best to purify, clear, and meditate on what you want to release and let go of over the coming year.

Why the entire year?

Eclipse cycles usually last around 2 years; this specific Solar Eclipse in Capricorn is the second of eight eclipses on the Capricorn/Cancer axis (with the last one occurring on July 5th, 2020, a Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn.) The next eclipse on January 21st will be at 00 deg 52’ Leo, the final eclipse on the Leo/Aquarius axis, finishing out the cycle that began in 2017.

The sign of Capricorn is especially important - AND the house in your chart where Capricorn resides - since there will be major, intense planetary configurations activating that area of your chart. ALL YEAR.

I wish I could say it was all good news. The planetary energies this year will be testing us all, but especially those who have major chart placements in the signs of Capricorn and Cancer. Not only are Saturn and Pluto there, but there will be heightened activation this year from Mars as well, especially in the months of June and July of this year. Sigh.

HOWEVER! There ARE ways to heed the warnings, mitigate the negatives, and use these energies to get your house in order.

Let’s start with taking our clues from Saturn, the planet of discipline, structure, and bringing ideas into form.

SATURN
This is the second year of a three-year cycle of Saturn in Capricorn, a sign under His rule. This year continues the focused intention on mastery, discipline, and committing yourself to positive habits and practices that will get you where you want to be.

Saturn transits can be tough, but in the sign of its rulership Saturn energy can be harnessed more readily, as long as you go along with what Saturn needs from you. Saturn rewards discipline and mastery, giving accolades for work well done. There are no free lunches with Saturn: during His transits you will be judged, rewarded for due diligence, or penalized for cutting corners.

Saturn likes long-term thinking; where would you like to be in three years, when Saturn has completed His time in his sign? What goal are you willing to dedicate yourself to? Who do you want to be at the end of this Saturn cycle?

RITUALS FOR THIS SOLAR ECLIPSE CYCLE
Today and tomorrow, while the moon is in Capricorn, work on purifying, clearing, and letting go. This is NOT the time for rituals of increase, since eclipses signify a darkening of the light, and are best used for meditation, clearing, ritual baths, and purging yourself, your home, and habits.

This would be a good time to make a vow to yourself to clear our obstacles to your BEST self … what activities, habits, or people are weighing you down with negativity? What are you ready to release? Focus on purifying your space, your mind, your body …

RITUAL BATH
- Make sure your bath tub is squeaky clean!
- in a clean washcloth, add epsom salt, sea salt, dried lavender or sage. Tie it with string or a rubber band and put it in your bath. If you don’t have the herbs, plain salt in the bath will do … add a few drops of essential oils if you have them, or make a cup of peppermint tea and add it to your bath.
- light candles and incense if you like.
- Soak in the bath, and imagine the salt pulling out  any mental, physical, or psychic impurities from your body and aura.
- Imagine all obstacles to your goals are being released, and reaffirm your commitment to do all in your power to bring your ideas into form.
- When you feel clear, imagine all of the impurities are washed down the drain, and express gratitude for clarity, and the opportunity to make a fresh start.

In a few days, once the moon is waxing, focus on what you want to create.
Write down your goals and make a commitment to yourself that you will love yourself and your life enough to follow through! The good news is: this is a long-term transit; you can break your goal down into two years, and then further into quarters. Slow and steady is Saturn’s way, but you must commit and keep moving forward, however slowly.
