New Moon in Cancer: Protecting the Heart’s Vision

This is the first time we’ve experienced a New Moon in Cancer that wasn’t an eclipse in years; the last time we had one that wasn’t affected was in 2017.
Cancer is a “cardinal” sign, along with Aries, Libra, and Capricorn. Those are the signs that are initiating and driven, correlating to the start of each of the four seasons.
Over the last several years, the cardinal signs have been hit hard … not only by the eclipse cycle, but also by several planets in Capricorn for most of 2020.
What you may not know is this:
When one of the cardinal signs is hit by oppressive astrological weather, so are all the others, by aspect: in this case, Cancer was hit by the Capricorn stellium through opposition, while Libra and Aries were aspected by squares.
Both oppositions and squares are considered “hard” aspects, and can be experienced as a period of upheaval or confrontation.
Those of us with strong points in cardinal signs went through a few years of internal and external realignment.
Eclipses signify radical change, and the area in your chart (the astrological house that cardinal signs are in) was probably most affected by the shifts that eclipses signify rather dramatically.
The good news?
Cardinal signs can relax, at least a little. There are still volatile aspects happening all year, but there are cycles within cycles that offer a bit of respite between battles.
Look at this new moon as a time to nurture yourself, and those around you.
Jupiter, the planet that rules Pisces traditionally, is in Pisces, a water sign, giving us a balm to calm any inflammation. Cancer is also a water sign, and can tap into the healing waves of Jupiter in Pisces to refresh and release.
There are some other aspects to consider.
Venus is in a position that ancient astrologers called “enclosed” … by both Mars and Saturn, the two malefics of traditional astrology.
Venus, and all matters ruled by Venus (art, sensuality, love, beauty, friendship, congeniality) are being held hostage by Mars, who separates, and Saturn, who oppresses. Not fun.

Those of us with prominent planetary placements in fixed signs (Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, or Taurus) close to that degree will feel this more deeply. Hold on. (My natal Sun is at 17 deg Aquarius, so my vital force feels both drained and overstimulated at the same time. Ugh.)
Ritual.
What do I do at the dark of the moon?
I pay homage to the Goddess Hekate, and go deep into the dark unknown. I ask for clarity, insight, and release, preparing for the next waxing moon cycle that is forthcoming. I prepare an elaborate altar to Her, and spend time during the dark moon to commune and connect with the deeper realms. (I also do daily rituals in order to maintain our connection and explore the beyond.)
What can you do for the new moon?
On the day of the new moon, clear your home; take a ritual bath; write down what you want to release on small slips of paper and burn them; let go of expectations, and ask for inspiration.
Where the new moon falls in your chart indicates the area of your life that will be most fruitful in your personal life for the next waxing moon phase.
The rituals posted here will be well into the waxing cycle, when it’s the best time to create rituals of increase and attraction.
