New Moon in Pisces: A Look Behind the Veil
Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 (exact 11.04 am est - 15 deg 47’)

Pisces season has always been a deeply inspirational time for me.

It’s a time of the year when the magical becomes tangible, almost visceral, and dreams come to life more readily, often in dramatic and unexpected ways.

With a stellium (an astrological term for a lineup in a single sign) in Pisces involving Mercury, Chiron, South Node, Vesta & Ceres in my natal fifth house of creativity and fun, I’m rather comfortable with the hazy, poetic, Pisces flow.

It’s time to drink deeply from the aqua blue ocean of the collective unconscious … where dreams reveal, and imagination ignites.

This New Moon in Pisces has a truly mystical quality to it, being closely conjoined to Neptune, the planet known for fuzzy boundaries and rose-colored glasses. Neptune is also the modern ruler of Pisces (the traditional ruler is Jupiter) and adds a gauzy, mystical quality to this particular lunation.

To add to the nebulous soup of this configuration, Mercury just went retrograde yesterday, at the last degree of Pisces, and will continue his backward motion through the rest of the month.

Astrologer Gary Caton, author of the book Hermetica Triptycha, says this about Mercury retrograde periods: “If we are not conscious of the deeper purpose of these transitions, then we can seemingly become their “victims.” The underworld journey is not rational, and so any expectations of a strictly “normal” experience from our rational consciousness are likely to meet with disappointment. However, this does not mean we should simply superstitiously avoid certain activities during Mercury’s retrograde. Rather, we need to try to learn or remember a different kind of dance altogether!”
(to learn more about Gary’s work, visit his website at dreamastrologer.com ).

This month offers an opportunity to seek the liminal, dissolve or stretch our boundaries, and experience a heightened sense of wonder, inspiration, and oneness.

Spiritual practices, self-care, journaling, creative writing, poetry, and songwriting, can flow easier now, as long as what you’re trying to convey is not too attached to logic or the status quo. Sometimes ideas flow easier through images and symbols than through words; paint some scribble with your prose, add color to rhyme scapes and see what new worlds your imagination can birth.
