A note on the Sabbats:
Sabbat rituals are seasonal, so exact timing is not necessary; it is possible to perform the ritual anytime within a week of the traditional date of  the Sabbat. The cross-quarter holidays occur when the Sun is at the middle degree [15 degrees of the fixed signs: Imbolc - Aquarius; Beltane - Taurus; Lammas - Leo; and Samhain - Scorpio] and are often exact many days after the traditional date, so feel free to choose the best time for you.

Beltane Ritual: May 1st, 2020
(astrologically exact May 4th, 2020, 8.39 pm EDT at 15 deg 00’ Taurus)

The maiden goddess of springtime now comes of age at Beltane, when the fertility of the earth is at its height!

Traditionally lauded as the time when the God and Goddess of the witches come together in sacred embrace, it is a celebration of sex, creativity, and growth; the altar is decorated with multicolored, voluptuous flowers, while ecstatic dancing, flowing wine, and ebullient singing is shared in joyous ceremony.

Beltane Herbal Lore

Almond: symbolic of true love transcending death

Angelica: ritual bath; “bringer of light”; protection; self-blessing

Cinquefoil: contains needed energy to manifest one’s ideas

Clover: animals, good luck, strength

Frankincense: consecration magic, purification, success, psychic ability

Hawthorn: classic flower used to decorate Maypole; fertility

Ivy: wear wreaths of ivy at Beltane; decorate altar; fidelity and valor

Juniper: used in incense to purify the home in preparation for Beltane

Marigold: ritual bath; prophetic dreams; favorable court verdict; attracts respect

Orchid: burn powdered root (orris) for love and passion

Rose: love and joy; multicolored roses on Beltane altar

Rowan: protection and healing; use berries in incense for psychic ability

Woodruff: attracts wealth; victory for athletes; protection

Ritual Bath
Angelica, clover, marigold, rose petals, emerald green altar candles for Venus. Place any of the herbs in a cloth and tie well; run under tap. You can also make a strong tea from the herbs, strain, and pour into the bath. Bathe yourself in the herbs and Venusian energies, clearing away anything that no longer needs to go with you. After the bath, bring the candles with you to the altar.

The Altar
You could face your altar to the east, or create one outside on a large, flat rock. A brightly colored altar cloth, flowers, a bowl of water, a bowl of salt, a bowl of fresh fruit as an offering, an image of a fertility Goddess or God, incense, candles, stones … what looks beautiful and sacred to you? Chocolates, wine, desserts, fine liqueurs … use your imagination!

Incense
To make a special Beltane incense, you can make a combination of benzoin, frankincense, cinnamon, rose petals, and sandalwood oil. Bring any or all of the incense ingredients into your ritual circle, adding one herb at a time, while grinding by hand with a mortar and pestle, focusing on the properties of the herb as it is added. Consecrate it to Venus by holding it up to Her, and asking for Her blessing.

Ritual
Cast a circle, and call in the quarters (the four directions/elements). Light incense.

You will need three candles: emerald green, yellow, and orange.

The emerald green candle represents Venus in Gemini conjunct Vesta, the asteroid Goddess of dedication and sacred devotion. Venus will be retrograde from May 13th through June 25th, so Venus will be in Gemini through August 8th this year! There are many ways these energies can play out in your life, depending on what house Gemini rules in your chart.
- What changes or new skills in communication would be beneficial to being to your most cherished relationships?
- What would you like to learn - or revisit - in your creative process and artistic projects?
- What artistic goal or relationship ideal ignites your passion and dedication?

Focus on your intention as you write your petition to Venus on a small piece of paper; read it aloud and ask for Her blessing, vowing to give it your all. Hold it to your heart, place it under the candle, and light it.

The yellow candle represents the Sun in the Sun/Mercury conjunction in Taurus, with the Sun representing soul and success, and Mercury ruling communication and details; in the sign of Taurus, ruled by Venus, it is about artistry, comfort, and not giving up, since Taurus is a fixed sign.
- What area of life do you want to build your confidence in? What specifically do you need to dedicate your energies to in order to do that?
- What part of your soul is yearning for self-expression?
Focus on your intention as you write your petition to Sol on a small piece of paper; read it aloud and ask for His blessing, vowing to give it your all. Hold it to your heart, place it under the candle, and light it.

The orange candle represents Mercury, the god of eloquence, communication, and commerce.
- What do you need to study in order to bring your skills to a higher level?
- What plan will you dedicate yourself to in order to bring your services to a wider audience?
Focus on your intention as you write your petition to Mercury on a small piece of paper; read it aloud and ask for His blessing, vowing to give it your all. Hold it to your heart, place it under the candle, and light it.

When you feel the ritual is complete, burn each paper and you focus once again on the intentions of your ritual, imagining the spell flying up and finding where it needs to land, while reading your petitions aloud and dedicating yourself to your vision.

Thank the energies, deities, and spirit helpers and close your circle, allowing the candles to burn all the way down,; conversely you can repeat the ritual for three days, allowing the candles to burn out on the third day.

You can also plant a special seed or tuber in a pot, and place all of the spell remnants (incense ashes, candle wax, etc) into the soil of the plant, as a symbol of your spell. Make sure to write all the details down in your magical diary so you remember what you did today.

Toast the spirits that joined in your ritual, and vow to be worthy of their help by doing all you can to bring your vision into form.

I wish you many blessings on this sacred holiday …

May your passions inspire the best in you, and ignite your faith to bring them into form!

Love, Sarolta
