It’s not enough to study astrology by looking at symbols on a page, a two-dimensional translation of a multi-dimensional sky.
I feel the pull to go out in the night air, find a place free of light pollution, and let the heavens speak to me directly in a language that is felt, not heard.
The sky was magical tonight.
As I stood under the beams of the Full Moon, I chanted to the Goddess Hekate:
IO HEKA IO HO. The air was crisp and cold, the snow underfoot encased in a shell of ice that gleamed in the light of the rising moon.
Diaphanous clouds encircled the moon, like dancing veils concealing and then revealing images here and then gone. As my chanting grew louder She encouraged my rapture: the profile of an ancient Goddess became a running horse, turning into dragons dissolving in flight.
This full moon at 00 deg 42’ Virgo, is conjunct the fixed star Regulus (at 00 deg 05’), one of the four Royal Stars of Persia, representing great power, success and leadership.
This full moon energy can be channeled into taking steps to claim your personal power and make big changes; with the moon’s trine to a tight conjunction between Mars, planet of energy and aggression, and Uranus, planet of revolution and sudden changes or insights, this lunation can give you the burst of courage needed to take the first step in creating that new chapter in your epic story.
Virgo’s ruler, Mercury, is in a tight conjunction with Neptune in the dreamy sign of Pisces, lending an imaginative, poetic air to the dreams that are floating in and out of focus now.
Want to create a spell for this full moon? Write a magical poem from the part of you that travels between your waking and dreaming realities. What can they tell you about possibilities, and the thresholds between worlds? What would your dreaming self tell you about your definition of “reality”?
This time can be seen as a preparation for the next Mercury retrograde in Pisces, an opportunity to go deep within to the magical realms, to realign and expand your vision of reality. If you don’t have a regular spiritual / meditative practice but have wanted to start one, this is the ideal time to make a commitment to yourself, since you will likely get great results with dreamwork, meditation, and trance with the Mercury/Neptune conjunction in Pisces.
You can go even deeper during the retrograde; contrary to popular opinion, I find those times to be magical and highly revelatory, as long as you go with the flow and try not to push too hard in any specific direction.
This is an ideal time to take a type of spiritual retreat … yes I know we have to go to work and function in the third dimension, silly, but try to take more time than usual to dance with the magic within you.
Poetry, songwriting, creative arts, imaginings of all sorts, ritual and communion are all highly favored at this time. Mercury will be retrograde from March 5th through 28th, starting at 29 deg Pisces and backing up to 16 degrees (Mercury’s current placement at the full moon) before turning direct again.
Hekate is the Torch Bearer, the Goddess of the Crossroads, the Keeper of the Keys.
